On Sunday 6th April 2008 Gloucestershire Constabulary passed responsibility of the welfare of
stray dogs to district councils. Gloucester City Council only provide a stray dog collection service Monday - Friday 8am -
4pm.
If a you find a stray dog outside of these hours the City Council Helpline will advise you to either hold the
dog until the next working day, or take the dog yourself to Cheltenham Animal Shelter.
This service is totally inadequate,
and putting dogs lives at risk. It is time Gloucester City Council addressed the problem, instead of expecting members of
the public to do their job for them.
